Which engine does your friend's aircraft have?
This makes a difference for visibility in flight; the faster Jabiru 3300 equipped aircraft fly "flatter" due to the 150 knot (170 mph) cruise speed.
As to panel and control layout, if you don't like it, change it! =) Just one benefit of experimental category aircraft.

I'm building a Sonex but have never been in one. To readers, you can have dual controls, Tri-Gear and mount the throttle in the center all are options. As far as the "Home Built" look, well I am adding the Leather interior to make it look more like a Factory Plane but with better performance, up to 170MPH with the Jab 3300 engine.
