I'm building a Sonex but have never been in one. To readers, you can have dual controls, Tri-Gear and mount the throttle in the center all are options. As far as the "Home Built" look, well I am adding the Leather interior to make it look more like a Factory Plane but with better performance, up to 170MPH with the Jab 3300 engine.

It sounds like the main problem here is the way the pay system is set up. As it stands now, they pay more money to pilots that are less efficient. That might actually be part of the reason for some of the other pilots going so slow - just to try and get extra money and flight time.

You might want to talk to your boss about changing how pilots are paid. Perhaps a flat rate per day, regardless of flight time. Or a standby rate, plus a per-hour rate for flight time. Or whatever would work well for you and management. Naturally, you can play with the numbers so that your paycheck ends up being about the same, only the slower pilots won't be getting paid alot more than you. Perhaps less than you, or the same, or only a little more. Either way, it's never going to be a well-paying job. But it sounds like your main concern isn't pay, but the idea of getting paid less because you do a better job - probably something to stress if you talk to management.

One thing to consider might be the type of pilots at the dropzone.. at my local gliderport, the towpilots get paid something like $7/hour. But none of them care, because they're just old guys that love flying. If that's what the other pilots at your dropzone are like, you might just have to suck it up and say 'dangit, I'm at an airport, I'm hanging out with cool people, and I'm flying a plane that somebody else is paying for! This is fun!'

I got to do a similar thing to this a couple of years ago in May--I took the task force boy's dean (who was from Argentina) for a flight around the metropolis of Hamburg, on the day before he was leaving to go back home to South America. It was really cool too, showing him the sights from a higher perspective of the area where he had lived for the past 10 months. I let him take the controls for quite a while, too.

Yes, showing aviation to newcomers is a rewarding experience.

Hi,

I work for Air Serv and I can tell you it is a great organization but I am biased. Our pilots do fly and we have support staff that maintain the planes and provide the logistical support that keeps are pilots flying. We have a one of the best safety records of any humanitarian airlines. Over 20 years and no flight related fatalities. We do fly in some of the most remote and dangerous areas in the world. If you do not have the qualifications needed at this time you still might want to contact us for more information on what opportunities exist. Thank you for checking us out and good luck on your studies and job search.
